Friday's rehab- too funny

As is my usual routine, I picked Tommy up from rehab in the afternoon. When the girls met me at the door with him he almost pulled them both over to get to me. He apparently misses me during the day. (I'm curious to know how he would react if someone else were waiting on the other side of that door instead of me)
One of the tech's said to me, "do the key thing." Which means let Tommy have my keys. So I did. He very willing took my keys but instead of heading for the van he turned toward a shrub, a very very prickly holly shrub kind of thing and just sort of dangled my keys in it. The techs were laughing as I was telling Tommy to back away from the shrub. He did and headed toward the same kind of shrub nearby, wagging his tail and looking at me from the corners of his eyes, very sheepishly. This pup knows exactly what he's doing! He's working these girls and me like a piece of old chewing gum. Once he got his head swollen enough, from all of laughing and swooning over him and was through being cute, he took my keys and the vet techs and headed to the van. GOD is he cute!

He is loving rehab and all of the attention. He is doing very well. Panic in his eyes for about 2 seconds while in the water treadmill but once he realized all he had to do was walk he smiled and walked, tongue hanging out and enjoyed the water! Dr. Gallagher is very happy with his progress.

Swimming

Tommy swam with Daddy and Aunt Chris this weekend. He manages to get to down to the third step but then he has to stay put or swim. Chris eased him out into the water (with a hot dog in her hand) and let him swim with her support. He didn't care as long as he could see the hot dog he was swimming! She gave him the hot dog then pointed him toward the steps and up he went. He did come back for more but again, couldn't quite understand how to get from the step to the water. He'll get it. If Dad takes him out he's good. If Chris does it he's good. He just needs help with that last step, literally.

That pool really tires him out too. He gets dried off, which takes FOREVER!!!!, then crashes out and sleeps. We're talking a really deep sleep, all night. Out cold, the end. Over and out!

He wants to be a swimmer!

The Captain likes the pool. He sits on the second step with his feet and bum in the water. If I can ever get a photo of him like this without getting my camera wet I'll post a photo but for now you will just have to take my word for it...it's SO cute!
He is trying to figure out how to get from the steps to the deeper water without leaving the safety of the steps. Yeah, that's not working so well for him.

June 12th- Physical Therapy consultation

What an experience! Tommy did very well at his consultation. Dr. Gallagher is impressed with where he's at in his healing process. She said he's making very good progress.
He did his usual "Woo-woo-wooo" to her and for her. He did all of his signature moves to win her over. All in all he behaved very well.
He'll have therapy a.k.a. school, every Tuesday and Friday for the next 6-8 weeks starting on June 19th.
The water treadmill should be very exciting!

June 1st- Stitches out and cleared for therapy

The Tunester got his stitches out on June 1st and Dr. Padfield chuckled at his speckled butt. Tommy's hair is tri-colored. Each hair is black on each end and blond in the middle (that's how he gets those gorgeous highlights) so as it grows back in on that lily white but he looked speckled for a while. Now his hip looks grey/black with blond fringe on the back of his leg. It's really funny to see how this hair is growing in. It grows faster in different places. The fringes on the very back of his leg is already an inch or so long and very coarse while the rest of the hair on his leg is just like peach fuzz. He has one tiny patch of very red hair about the size of a pencil eraser coming in on top of his hip. Odd, really odd but fun to see how it changes.
Dr. Padfield watched Tommy walk and moved his leg all around. Tommy was very good for her. Much better than I would have been. She was very gentle, as she always is but I don't think I would have been so willing to let someone do any kind of range of motion with my leg just two weeks after having the ball of my hip cut off. Any way, she cleared him for physical therapy.
Yeah Tommy!!!!
As usual, while at Dr. Padfield's office Tommy made a new friend. Actually, this new friend of Tommy's was an old friend of Mommy's. Some of you may remember a couple of strays Second Chance took into the program last Summer named Monkey and Mortimer. Really neat dogs, who wandered into a Fuquay couple's yard last July. The couple already had two dogs and just didn't think they could handle four dogs. Well, they ended up adopting those two dogs from us. I did the "intakes" on those dogs, helped Paula in the clinic that first night with Mortimer's nasty ear infection and ultimately did the "go homes". Tommy's new friend was Mortimer! What a huge surprise! What a good lookin' dog! It was great to see him again and to talk with his Mom. Both boys are doing great. Monkey was at home with Dad swimming in the pond. Mort was there to get his vaccines. Monkey had been in the day before. Small world.
We're going to set up a play date when Tommy is fully recuperated

Mom's a Slacker!

Sorry it's been so long.... I've been a slacker. Too many things going at once and business travel too.
Tommy is great and I'll get to some break down posts so you all know what's been going on.

Hope Aunt Tammy Doesn't Mind, but...

...just had to share the pictures. Miss Maggie needs to wear her "floaty" again because of another hot spot, and I thought y'all might like to see. It really is an excellent alternative to an e-collar, and as you can see in the 2nd picture, it appears to be quite comfortable...
