The ramp that Daddy built

A few weeks back we go the wonderful news that Tommy also has issues with his elbows. Basically, the boy doesn't have a good leg to stand on! The vets x-rayed them and there is extensive Osteo Arthritis, Osteophytes and Digenerative Joint Disease in both elbows. They don't like to do surgery on elbows because of all of the arteries and things. It's tricky. So, unless Tommy comes up lame he won't have surgery in his front legs. We will and have modified his activities, diet and Daddy built a ramp for the bed.
Nope, our dogs aren't spoiled. Ed doesn't show any favoritism. He doesn't give a rats hiney about the dogs at all....yeah, right!
Ed has built an awesome ramp for Tommy and anyone else who will use it (nobody does) to get on and off the bed. Our bed sits quite high and the vets don't want Tommy jumping due to the impact on his elbows. Dogs carry 60% of their body weight on their elbows any way and the impact of the jumping isn't good for his bad elbows.
The ramp runs the full width of the bottom of the bed so it doesn't stick out in to the middle of the bedroom and it has a more gradual slope. Tommy goes up the ramp all of the time. He goes down the ramp about 75% of the time. He'll do this more and more as time goes on. The problem is he gets in a big hurry and forgets the ramp and just jumps.
Check out the photos of the cool ramp.
Tommy says "Thanks Dad!"
Tommy in his Second Chance Pet Adoptions t-shirt
Hi all,
I am so delinquent in posting to the blog. Sorry! I'm going to try to go in order and get things current.
Here is the Captain in his Second Chance Pet Adoptions embroidered t-shirt we bought him at the Silent Auction. He's so cute! I don't know if this would have fit him if he had all of his long hair though. He wore it like a trooper.
What a good boy! Wonder what else he'll wear...hmm.

Quick Update
I visited Sir Thomas last night - he is still a little stinker, even in his post-anesthesia haze... Turned my back for one second and he quietly stole a halved corn cob off of my plate, prompting visions of doggie ER visits from all... Thankfully I was able to pry it out of his jaws without too much pomp and circumstance. I'll let Ms Tammy speak to all of the surgery and orthopedic news with her update (hopefully) tomorrow.
Seriously, the little man is doing well - sleeping a lot - same MO as the last surgery thus far, except he has a poofy tail and grampy ear hair!
Happy Friday,
Chris
P.S. Heard about the Jackie-love, SP - wow! I am super-jealous :)
