Moving On

Hi there,

It has been a long time. Tommy is doing great! He has healed and running like a mad man. There will come a time when he will need surgery on his elbows but that doesn't seem to be any time soon and we are limiting his jumping/landings so we should be good for some time.

Our oldest is having issues with his hip again so we are working through that. He has had a couple of surgeries since October 2009 and is in rehab again. It's a long road ahead, I honestly can't see the end yet but we will be just fine.

We have a new blog that is just telling stories about our pack and our dog experiences. the address is www.aultpack.blogspot.com Check us out there to see what's going on and to see photos of the kids.

Thanks for following us,
Tam

Surgery on hip #2 9/6/07- went well update soon

The ramp that Daddy built

A few weeks back we go the wonderful news that Tommy also has issues with his elbows. Basically, the boy doesn't have a good leg to stand on! The vets x-rayed them and there is extensive Osteo Arthritis, Osteophytes and Digenerative Joint Disease in both elbows. They don't like to do surgery on elbows because of all of the arteries and things. It's tricky. So, unless Tommy comes up lame he won't have surgery in his front legs. We will and have modified his activities, diet and Daddy built a ramp for the bed.

Nope, our dogs aren't spoiled. Ed doesn't show any favoritism. He doesn't give a rats hiney about the dogs at all....yeah, right!

Ed has built an awesome ramp for Tommy and anyone else who will use it (nobody does) to get on and off the bed. Our bed sits quite high and the vets don't want Tommy jumping due to the impact on his elbows. Dogs carry 60% of their body weight on their elbows any way and the impact of the jumping isn't good for his bad elbows.

The ramp runs the full width of the bottom of the bed so it doesn't stick out in to the middle of the bedroom and it has a more gradual slope. Tommy goes up the ramp all of the time. He goes down the ramp about 75% of the time. He'll do this more and more as time goes on. The problem is he gets in a big hurry and forgets the ramp and just jumps.

Check out the photos of the cool ramp.

Tommy says "Thanks Dad!"

Tommy in his Second Chance Pet Adoptions t-shirt

Hi all,

I am so delinquent in posting to the blog. Sorry! I'm going to try to go in order and get things current.

Here is the Captain in his Second Chance Pet Adoptions embroidered t-shirt we bought him at the Silent Auction. He's so cute! I don't know if this would have fit him if he had all of his long hair though. He wore it like a trooper.
What a good boy! Wonder what else he'll wear...hmm.

Quick Update

I visited Sir Thomas last night - he is still a little stinker, even in his post-anesthesia haze... Turned my back for one second and he quietly stole a halved corn cob off of my plate, prompting visions of doggie ER visits from all... Thankfully I was able to pry it out of his jaws without too much pomp and circumstance. I'll let Ms Tammy speak to all of the surgery and orthopedic news with her update (hopefully) tomorrow.

Seriously, the little man is doing well - sleeping a lot - same MO as the last surgery thus far, except he has a poofy tail and grampy ear hair!

Happy Friday,
Chris

P.S. Heard about the Jackie-love, SP - wow! I am super-jealous :)

Shave and a haircut...two bits!

Tommy had his first "puppy cut" on Friday. Actually, as you can see, it was more of a shave! He looks quite different and if they had shaved his long "grandpa ear hair" I wouldn't have recognized him as our dog! I laughed out loud when I saw him and he didn't like that at all. He tossed his head back and woo-woo'ed me. He's a little self concious of his poof at the end of his tail. Next time we'll have Cindy shave that off too. Personally, we all think it's cute but Tommy doesn't seem aprticulary fond of it.

The rest of the pack gave him the once over when he got home. Chris' kids came over and they took it all in stride. Everyone played this morning and as usual Jilli was "it". Tanner and Tommy chased her to the steps.

Tommy is much cooler. He slept better last night and isn't constatnly panting. It's a great cut for the pool too. Much easier to dry!

Enjoy the photos!

Happy Birthday Tommy!!!!

Happy Birthday Tommy! Tommy turned one year old yesterday, July 14th. It's hard to believe he's a year old already. We'll be celebrating with Aunt Chris, Maggie and Tanner today. Chuck and Michelle coming over too.
We've got some Boxer Brownies and some Boston Terrier Cream pies from the Three Dog Bakery for the fur kids to have.
Here's to many more years of fun and belly rubs for the Captain!
